EXECUTIVE OVERVIEW AND BUSINESS
PLANS
Executive Overviews:
When
presenting a description or summary of your business
for the purpose securing a business loan, attracting
a partner or offering the business for sale, the Executive
Overview must be interesting, accurate and compelling.
The facts must be clearly presented, but at the same
time the Overview must encompass all the essential
elements.
A Executive Overview must be brief; two pages should
be enough, but supporting documentation needs to be
readily available. The Executive Overview must have
an impact like a billboard while encouraging the reader
to keep reading until the whole story is presented.
The information must be presented in a manner that
the reader feels knowledgeable and has an understanding
of the subject matter while not having study.
Lenders, investors and strategic buyers of businesses
are inundated with offers and people wanting their
attention. A well written Executive Overview can make
the difference between being well received or ignored.
Business Plans:
Before lenders or investors will commit to funding
they will want a complete Business Plan. Contrary
to what might be traditionally expected, a business
plan does not have to be a boring document that follows
a standard format. A business plan can be and should
be interesting and a pleasure to read. It should capture
the interest of lenders and investors, give them a
unique insight of the business and encourage their
participation. A business plan should also be a guide
for the owner and a way the owner can monitor the
progress of the business and make necessary adjustments.
